How We Calculate Your Trip Cost
Our calculator uses real-time fuel prices from the official GOV.UK Fuel Finder API, covering over 8,000 UK stations. We calculate driving distances using actual road routes (not straight-line distances) for accurate results.
The fuel cost is calculated as: (distance ÷ MPG) × 4.546 litres per gallon × price per litre. If you look up your vehicle by registration, we calculate the MPG from the vehicle's official CO2 emissions figure (g/km) registered with the DVLA, giving you a result specific to your exact car. When CO2 data isn't available (older vehicles), we fall back to estimates based on fuel type and engine size.
